As far as i know, Chitrakut is not the birth place of Lord Dattatreya. It is the place of origin of Sri Dattatreya vajra kavacham. I also heard about Suchindram, near Kanyakumari, as a birth place of Dattatreya. I think no body can give a clear focus on this topic.
