Postby Siva on Wed Oct 22, 2008 10:36 am

Many people visit Srisailam temple, but forget to see important places which are present with in the temple. This is a small post to remind those places.

1. Vriddha mallikarjuna swamy:

Lord Shiva appeared as an old man in-front of Chandravati to test her devotion. Chandravati accepted the old Shiva to get married. Shiva was pleased and married her in the form of Mallikarjuna.

This Shiva linga is present in the North-East corner of Mallikarjuna swamy temple, behind Triphala vriksha. Daily Rudra yaga is conducted in a hall in-front of this temple.

A Sahasra linga, believed to be consecrated by Lord Sri Rama, is present near by Vriddha Mallikarjuna.

2. Triphala Vriksha:

This is the co-existance of three sacred trees belonging to Ficus species. They are Asvattha (Ravi), Udambara (Medi) and Plaksha (Juvvi). The Great Rishi Agastya is present under this tree in hidden form. Once, Sri Guru Dattatreya too appeared under this tree.

3. Addala mandapam:

This is an interesting place with mirrors all around it's inner walls. In the center of the room there is a cradle with the small idols of Lord mallikarjuna and Bhramaramba.

4. Kurma peetham:

It is present behind Addala mandapam, under a sacred Amla tree.

5. Raja-rajeswara swamy temple:

It is present beside Kurma peetham.
A temple of Raja-rajeswari devi is also present here.

6.Sanagala Basavanna:

Sanagala Basavanna is a big Nandi present in-front of Mallikarjuna swamy. He is worshiped by offering Sanagalu (Bengal gram), by which his name came.

7.Veera siro mandapam:

It is present between Mallikarjuna swamy and Sanagala Basavanna. This is the place where Veera Shaiva devotees sacrificed their hands, legs, tongues, and even heads to attain Shiva rupa.

8. Manohara kundam:

There are small wells in Srisailam temple campus, called as Kundams. Manohara kundam is the most important out of them as the water of this Kundam is used for Shivabhishekam.

9. Sapta matrukalu:

You will find a stone carved with the images of Sapta-matrukalu. It comes after Manohara kundam.

10. Panditaradhya peetham:

It is present towards the left in the way to Bhramaramba temple. The successors of Sri Guru Panditaradhya (Incarnation of Lord Mallikarjuna) are maintaining this. It is very important to Veera Shaiva devotees, coming from Karnataka.

11. Lopamudra:

Jaganmatru rupini, wife of Agastya maharshi, Lopamudra is present in the temple campus of Bhramaramba. She is beside the carvings of Maha saraswati, Maha lakshmi, Maha kali.

12. Chandi yaga shala:

It is present beside Karaveera vriksha which comes towards left, while returning from Bhramaramba temple to Mallikarjuna swamy temple. Daily Chandi yaga is conducted here.

13. Kumara swamy:

Son of Lord Mallikarjuna and Bhramaramba devi, by the grace of whom we are lucky to get a Jyotirlinga and a Shaktipeetha at Srisailam.

14. Akka maha devi and Hema reddy mallamma:

Two great devotees of Lord Mallikarjuna, present in the North-West corner of the Srisailam temple.

15. Uma maheswara swamy temple:

It is present in the Northern side of the temple.

16. Veera bhadra swamy:

The temple of Lord Veera bhadra is present beside Mallikarjuna swamy temple towards North. A Pashupata yantra, collected from Vibhuti matham, is present here. Vibhuti made up of Rudra yaga and Chandi yaga placed on it.

Pancha pandava Lingas are present behind Veerabhadra Swamy.

17. Ardha Naareeswari:

A temple of Uma devi / Ardha Naareswari is present beside Mallikarjuna swamy temple. It is a very very important temple. Uma devi is the second the wife of Lord Mallikarjuna. Every year Shiva kalyanam will be conducted on Shiva ratri with Uma devi.

18. Sarswati kundam:

It is present beside Veera bhadra temple. and considered as the appearence of holy river Saraswati in Srisailam. You can see the shadow of Alaya sikhara in this.

In-spite of seeing the above temples , every body should visit some other places in Srisailam to complete the tour. See this Srisailam tour aricle .

Sudha kundakhya sukshetre Mallikarjuna lingatah /
Jananam Panditaryasya nivasah Sri girou shive //

The Veera Shaiva sampradaya tells about five peethas formed by five great Yateeshwaras.
These Yateeshwaras are said to be originated from the Shiva lingas directly. They are-

1.Ekoramaradhya-Kedar nath-Aghora murthi.
2.Vishwaradhya-Kasi-Eshana murthi.
3.Marularadhya-Ujjaini-Vama deva murthi.
4.Panditaradhya-Srisailam-Tatpurusha murthi.
5.Revanaradhya-Rambha puri-Sadyojatha murthi.

All these established Veera shaiva sampradaya and developed people spiritually.
