Ujjaini is one of the seven Moksha puras.

This one of the four Kumbha mela places.
There are two Shakti peethas, a Jyotirlinga, a Vishnava kshetra and many other temples in this city.
Lord Shiva praised the speciality of Ujjaini- having Cemetery(Shmashanam), Salty soil(Ooshram), Field(Kshetram), Plateau(Peetham), and Garden(Vanam) all at one place.
