The famous srikrishna temple near alappuzh for about 8 miles was erected in in 800 A.D. by Chembakaserri Pooradam and as legend goes the initiative for constructing this temple goes back to an incident related to sage Vilwamangalam Swaamiyaar.
It had most important historical significance i.e during times of muslim invasions the idol from guruvayoor temple kept here and worshipped for some period and the origin of a type of art called "ottanthullai" had roots from this temple only.
Another famous ambalapuzh payasam which is offered to srikrishna as naivaidyam (in the afternoon only ) is unique in taste.
